Chingola Tragedy Unfolds: Urgent Rescue Operations for Trapped Miners Amidst Collapsed Mine in Zambia
A terrible accident recently happened in Chingola on the Copperbelt, where some people who were mining illegally got stuck after the ground caved in on them. This made a team of helpers from Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) and the Mines Safety Department work together quickly to save them.
A TV crew from ZNBC was there yesterday and said that the helpers are taking out water from the holes where the people are. Sadly, by 09:30 hours, they had not found anyone yet. Everyone is worried and in a hurry.
The leader of Chingola, Mr. Chimupi, said that the helpers are still trying, but the situation is very bad.
The people of Chingola are asking the government to do more to help. They care about the people who are stuck and their families.
The President, Mr. Hichilema, said he is very sorry for what happened. He said, “We are sad to hear that many people died at a small mine site in Chingola. We pray for the families and friends of those who died.”
The President also thanked the helpers and the people who are volunteering. He said they are brave and strong to do this hard job.
He said, “This shows us why we need to make mining safer for everyone.”
This is a sad reminder of how dangerous it is to mine illegally. It also shows us why we need to follow the rules.
